Social Capitalism

Old ideas come around when they are most needed.  There is a whole new (old) movement called Social Capitalism:  for an idea of how this can operate read about the Sekem Initiative.

Mondragon Corporation

The MONDRAGON Corporation is a federation of worker cooperatives based in the Basque region of Spain. It was founded in the town of Mondragón in 1956.  This is a heartwarming story of how a cooperative effort can build good sustainable lives in a partnership nor dominator fashion.

The Grameen Bank has been in operation for over 35 years and is a great example of how poor people can be helped to become small entrepreneurs. There is really no reason such banks could not start in the so called “developed” world.  Well, maybe there would be great opposition from the current banking empires.

Revolving funds  Small scale loans help people make better lives for themselves in the developing world.  Some countries and states in the developed world are also using the idea.

Even within our current developed  world banking systems, supporting a local community bank ensures that profits stay mainly in the community. So switch your banking to a community bank!

Maybe some of the ideas in social capitalism will refine and replace our current global capitalism.  At least we can try!
